Nicola Wilson - Clinical Pharmacist

Nicola is the Clinical Pharmacist on Paediatric Critical Care Unit. Patients in PICU have complex pharmaceutical needs (for example renal and/ or hepatic impairment, renal replacement therapies, ECMO, polypharmacy) and Nicola supports medical and nursing staff in the safe and effective use of medicines for all patients on PICU, especially therapeutic drug monitoring and ordering of Parenteral Nutrition. She is involved in the production and review of medicines guidelines on the ward and induction training for medical and nursing staff. Nicola is part of the Clinical Information System team on PICU.

She graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc Hons in Pharmacy in 2000 and completed her pre-registration training with Boots in 2001. Since then, she has worked in the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank before moving to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in 2004 where she progressed from a rotational pharmacist to an aseptic and clinical pharmacist. Nicola completed a PGDip in Clinical Pharmacy Practice in 2009 before joining the PICU team.

Nicola is a pre-registration tutor and has a special interest in training and education. She is involved in the Paediatric Cardiac Nursing course at Glasgow Caledonian University. She has been involved in prescriber training at the RCPCH.

Nicola is a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group and the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association.
